Dual video on NCR 7456 and 7458
The following steps detail the procedure for installing a PCI video card (7456-K350) into a 7456/58 for Dual Display use with an off-the-shelf installation of Windows 2000.NOTE: If an NCR Windows 2000 image is used, start with step #9.
Download the video drivers from the following site before beginning the installation of Windows. http://www.ncr.com/support/support_drivers_patches.asp?class=External\display
Note: Install all motherboard drivers before installing or connecting any PCI cards or peripherals other than keyboard, mouse, and display.
1. Install Windows 2000.
2. In Device Manager (Start \ Settings \ Control Panel \ System \ Hardware \ Device Manager) select Video Controller under “Other Devices”.
3. Select Reinstall Driver \ Next \ Next.
4. Select “Specify a Location” only \ Next.
5. Select Browse then navigate to the location of the driver files extracted above (W2K\Video\VIA8601\Setup\KPLE2KXP.INF).
6. Select Open \ OK \ Next \ YES \ Finish.
7. Use the same procedure to load drivers for any remaining items under “Other Devices”, pointing to the appropriated files downloaded above.
8. After all drivers are loaded, close Device Manager, restart Windows, and verify the terminal functions correctly.
9. Additional hardware can be installed at this point.
10. Shutdown Windows and disconnect the terminal from AC power (PCI slots are powered until the power supply is unplugged).
11. If a PCI video card is to be installed for use with Dual Display modes, the BIOS must be changed from PCI to AGP in the Advanced \ Advanced Chipset Control menu before entering Windows.
NOTE: This is not necessary if the PCI video card is to be used as the only VGA/SVGA display.
12. Install the board into a PCI slot and connect a display.
13. Windows 2000 will detect and install its own driver for some video cards, such as the ATI Rage XL. You will NOT be prompted to load a driver for hardware that was found.
14. In Device Manager (see step #2) under Display Adapter, select ATI Rage.
15. Select Driver \ Update Driver \ Next \ Next \ Specify location \ Next.
16. Select Browse then navigate to the location of the driver files extracted above (\W2k\video\ATI\RXL2K\ATIDrive\ATII2KAD.INF).
17. Select Open \ OK \ Next (make sure Windows shows the correct file path in this last box).
18. Select Finish then restart Windows.
19. The second display can now be activated under Display Properties
