How do I setup an OLE DB connection to Excel with LABELVIEW?

Connecting to a Microsoft Excel File Using OLE DB

   1. Open your spreadsheet in Excel.
   2. Click on the cell in the upper left corner of the spreadsheet. Hold the SHIFT key and click on the cell in the bottom right of the spreadsheet (scroll down and to the right if necessary) to select the entire file. Do not select any empty fields or rows.
   3. On the Insert menu, click Name, and then select Define. Enter a name for the 'database' and click OK.
   4. Save the spreadsheet and return to the label design software.
   5. In the label design software, on the Options menu, click Configuration.
   6. Click the OLE DB Manager tab and click the New button. The New Database Connection wizard appears.
   7. In the Connection Source area, click the Select an OLE DB Provider option, and then click the Build button. The Data Link Properties dialog box appears.
   8. On the Provider tab, select Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
   9. Click the All tab. In the list, click Extended Properties, and then click the Edit Value button. The Edit Property Value dialog box appears.
  10. In the Property Value box, type Excel 8.0, and then click OK.
  11. Click the Connection tab, and then click the browse button. The Select Access Database dialog box appears.
  12. In order to view Excel files in this dialog box, you must select All Files for the Files of type setting at the bottom.
  13. Select your Excel spreadsheet, and then click Open.
  14. Back on the Connection tab, click the Test Connection button to verify that the new database connection is working properly. You should receive a message confirming that the test was successful. Click OK.
  15. On the Data Link Properties dialog box, click OK again.
  16. You will now be prompted to enter a name for your new OLE DB connection. Enter a meaningful name for the data source, and then click OK.
  17. You should now see your new connection listed on the OLE DB Manager tab. Click OK to exit the Configuration dialog box.
  18. Add a new text or bar code field to your label with an OLE DB data source and for the Connection setting, select the connection you just created.
  19. You will notice that the Database setting defaults to a value that uses a dollar sign ($) in the name. Using a database name with a dollar sign will cause errors at print time, so instead you should select the name you assigned to the spreadsheet in Excel.
  20. Once you have configured all the options for your text or bar code field, click OK and then click on the label to add the new field.
